About
We who have desisted from crime and become rehabilitated want to challenge the pejorative perceptions and policies that claim to keep society safe. The reality is often opposite in terms of the difficulties faced by those who want to desist from crime and be considered rehabilitated. The aim of the website is hopefully a simple one – to become part of the discourse relating to the rehabilitation of offenders. Including the challenging of perceptions, policies and practices that claim to rehabilitate and protect society. The website aims to share people’s experience of policies, practices and media associated with creating public perceptions of ‘ex-offenders’. It’s aim is to give a first hand account and appraisal of the criminal justice system and services (public, private and charitable) from the perspective of those who use them. The fundamental aim is to break down the prejudices and discriminations created by labelling people through policy and media interpretations. By using ’ex-offender’ we aim to challenge the pejorative association, highlighting the need to understand the person, and not the label. The website has been through a number of changes since its inception in 2009. It was conceived, created and developed by Raymond Lunn while attending the University of Leeds and originally shared his narrative, his struggle and reintegration. The website is managed and maintained by Raymond.
